About The Owner

Huy founded Lam Counseling Services to offer a non-pathologizing approach to mental health care, seeing disorders as expressions of the enduring human struggle with life’s complexities. Beside a clinician, Huy is also a husband, a father and a YouTuber providing high quality, graduate-level lectures on mental health in the Vietnamese language.

Our Philosophy

We see problematic thoughts and behaviors as ways we adapt to our environment. In other words, every symptom serves a function in a person’s life, even if it’s not working well.

For example, an anger issue might stem from a history of feeling dismissed or inadequate, where anger serves to assert control or mask vulnerability. While it can create challenges, this anger has likely helped the person navigate situations where they felt powerless or unheard.

As a result, counseling is not merely about symptoms reduction, but addressing the deeply ingrained patterns of behaving that are no longer helpful.

Our Mission

The mission of Lam Counseling Services is to promote human flourishing.

Therapy is one of many signposts pointing there, not the destination. Our goal is not to sell you more therapy, but to work ourselves out of a job, removing obstacles so you can move on to greater things.

Education

Huy received a Master in Counseling from Dallas Theological Seminary and currently at the last stage of the PhD program at East Texas A&M.
